RECENT STRIKES IN UK

Support the Longannet & Grangemouth strikers!

Here’s why,  says George C.

The recent strikes in Lincolnshire, supported by the workers at Longannet and Grangemouth have been portrayed in the media as inspired by xenophobia.

The real truth is, it is surprising that something like this has not happened before.

The real culprits are the politicians of the main parties who voted, in 2004, for Britain to become one of the FEW countries in the EU to permit UNLIMITED numbers from within, and outwith the EU to come and work here.

Yes, it is legal, but is it justice. Is the law to allow unlimited numbers to flood into this country and compete for work, fair?.

Hitler’s Germany and Soviet Russia had laws which enabled the state to arrest and convict people without trial. That was legal, but certainly not what we would consider justice.

Remember this right was given out by politicians who themselves have very generous salaries and pensions, people who we voted for and put into power. Surely their priority should be to safeguard the jobs of those who elected them. Any unjust law should be challenged. That is democracy.

The present Government in Britain cannot control our borders to stop workers from within the EU. Its given away that power, It could stop those from outwith, but does not want to.
It has repeatedly refused to cap uncontrolled immigration.

The Government does NOT KNOW how many people have entered the country. It was reported by Hazel Blears the local Government Minister in an interview in the Sunday Times in January that “asylum and immigration was a ‘free for all’, and could be a recipe for social tension”.

So just how many are competing in the labour market now?. Well the Department of Work and Pension show that the number of foreigners over the age of 16 working in Britain was 2.29 million at the end of March 2007—270,000 more than at the same time the previous year.

Frank Field, Labour MP, has commented “ that 50,000 NI numbers have been issued in one East End London borough to non-British workers employed on the Olympic site”. This at a time our British construction workers are suffering unemployment. It is truly shocking.

How can you contribute make the major political parties in this country see sense?

In June this year ,elections for the EU Parliament take place. Send the politicians a message:

* Do not vote for any of the big parties.

* Vote for a Party who is willing to leave the EU – to regain control of our borders. And our country!
