I‘d say that we of the Letter Writers Guild are part debating society and part activist group. It sometimes frustrates me that we’re too much of the first and too little of the second.
One topic unifying us should lead us to concerted action. Political correctness in all its forms is an insidious evil threatening our society in many ways. Its clearest manifestation is the fragmentation wrought by deference to all things Islamic.
We recognise a catalogue of examples of varying severity from the establishment of “Muslim areas” to English pupils being disciplined for not praying to Allah. I believe it’s only a matter of time until Muslim clerics sit in the House of Lords, with access to our law-making process.
The Swiss have requisitioned a referendum to ban the building of minarets, and the Swiss People’s Party openly stated that they are fighting the spread of political Islam. Say that here, and you’ll land in jail.
Most of you have heard me state that the only effective means of preventing this destruction of our way of life is to declare the country officially either Christian or secular. I now believe that secularity is the only way, as followers of Islam would reject another religion.
I suggest that our next LWG meeting consider a concerted approach to the Scottish Parliament. We could present an exhaustive list of examples, and ask them to remove all religion from Scottish public life.
Letters to newspapers will achieve nothing, I’m afraid.
